It all started with a break in a sewer pipe, sending nasty yellow
water flooding into the pond. In a panic, unsure whether is was
toxic and thus injurious to Mrs. Beaver and her newborn kits which I
have just heard starting in the last week, I called the management
office. It was then I learned that this is not the first pipe that
had broken but others had in the past. And they had broken because
of collapsing creek banks. And the collapsing creek banks were
caused by multiple beaver dens. These dens have so weakened the
banks that they could threaten our very buildings, some of which,
including ours, are only a dozen feet or so from the creek itself.
:( So, as soon as they can arrange for a licensed trapper, Mrs.
Beaver will be caught and relocated. I made numerous calls to the
Department of Fish and Wildlife and the management office, but this
action is inevitable. After the removal of the beavers, a massive
bank repair project is scheduled for next summer. I can only hope
that they leave it as beautiful as it is now.
So who knows how long we have to enjoy Mrs. Beaver or even the creek
itself. But I vow to hold on to as much of it as I can, as long as
I can. |
